The Importance of a Last Will and Testament
Do you have a Last Will and Testament? While most estate assets and property can be designated to transfer after your death, it is important to have a Last Will and Testament (commonly referred to as a "Will") to ensure that your property and assets are distributed without the extra hassles, costs, and delays of probate court. Though it is possible to create your own Will from an online template or source, it is not recommended. Having an experienced attorney review and update, or create, your Will ensures that the necessary language is in place to handle all of your property and assets according to your wishes upon your death. This is especially important for those with minor children, as a Will should include a provision for their guardianship.
