Your Employer's Disability Policies

If you have a short-term and/or a long-term disability policy (STD and LTD) through your employer, you are likely not familiar with the terms and conditions of that benefit. If you do not know if you have a policy through your employer for disability, you can check your pay stub to see if anything is being deducted to pay for it; if there is nothing on your pay stub, you can ask your employer if a short-term and/or long-term disability policy exists for you during your employment.

It is important to understand the terms and conditions of your disability policy, especially if you are paying all or a part of the premium. You should at least know the definition of disability, the amount of your benefit, whether other income would offset any benefits, whether you have a preexisting medical clause and what is required for eligibility.

The Law Office of Malyuk McDaniel Kasper LLC has extensive experience with short-term and/or long-term disability policies. If you know you have one but do not have possession of it, our advice is to get a copy and look at it to understand what you are entitled to as an employee. We can help you with any issue regarding disability or understanding your policy. Call us at 330.929.9700 today to speak with an attorney.
