Social Security allows a person to claim disability if their gross monthly earnings are below certain thresholds. This threshold changes every year and is currently $1,470.00 for non-blind individuals. Additionally, the rules do not require someone to wait a
full year to apply for disability. Instead, the requirement is that the condition “has lasted, or is expected to last, at least one year or result in death.”
