Social Security Disability: No Changes to Benefits or Eligibility in Current Legislation

Lately, there's been a noticeable uptick in media coverage and calls to my office with concerns over the future of Social Security.  As an attorney who helps individuals secure Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits, I want to clarify the facts and ease some of the confusion from our experience with disability claims.

No Changes to Disability Benefits in Pending Legislation

While lawmakers are actively debating budget proposals, none of the current legislation contains changes to SSDI benefits or eligibility requirements. Additionally, the Social Security program, including the disability trust fund, is fully funded for many years to come. Although long-term funding adjustments may be needed eventually, there is no immediate threat to SSDI or its beneficiaries. These discussions are focused on future projections and do not impact today’s applicants or recipients.

There have been and always will be continuing reviews for individuals who are receiving disability.  Over the past few years, our office has seen an increase in cases where Social Security is planning on terminating benefits, however, in our opinion, this is not indicative of the prior or the current administration's decisions.

Misinformation spreads quickly and causes unnecessary worry. If you're living with a disability and unable to work, SSDI remains a strong and stable resource - backed by law, and available to those who qualify.  If you have questions about your eligibility or are facing a denial, call the attorneys at the Law Office of Malyuk McDaniel Kasper at 330.929.9700 to discuss your unique case.
